Yeah, I mounted a quick release, too - I just dont get it why they cant mount one out of the box - especially in size large where the 100mm adjustability of the seatpost most likely are not enough :)

I have to try the IBEX as well, heard only good things about them.

About the Fox - isn't the problem with the mid travel dive on all Fox 32/34 the case? Why no Pike? Everybody seems to be very happy with the pike.

Thanks a lot for this amazing review. I bought the Giant Trance 1 27.5 this January. I’m totally happy with this choice.

I also exchanged the tires with Ibex 2.40 DH. That was a good decision. Still not very happy with the Fox Talas 32. Just as you said, in rocky sections it runs fast trough the mid travel and is not able to recover. I also tried to compensate this with a increased rebound and air pressure but it did not work out that good. Thinking about buying a 150mm or 160mm Fox … For the seatpost i mounted a quick release skewers …

It was quite alright (but a bit too big for us at that time). But 3 people in the lineup. I wish I could be there right now, would surf definitly more and (hopefully) get fewer wipe outs :)

thanks a lot for your reply.

A friend of mine just came back from Sumbawa and he as well really recommended Lakey Peak. Problem is: It's about 300€ more expensive to get there and I am quite short on budget... Otherwise it sounds like a great option too.

But, if we ended up in Krui anyways...: I realize the point or the other reefbreaks aren't any good for my girl (they sound great to me though ;)). Are there no more forgiving beachbreaks at all in the area? Or was there just no need to look for you guys since Ujung Bocor was just fine for you?
Without any mellower wave options for my girlfriend we (unfortunately) would have to look somewhere else....

Well, it wasn't often crowded - 50 surfers was worst case situation, when the swell was too small and not much else was working properly - Everybody was hanging around on Ujung Bocor, definitly the most consistent wave in the region.

Normally it distributes quite well. Besides. Ujung Bocor has more or less 3 sections. The first often barelling but plain shallow. Not many make it to the 2nd section where we were sitting mostly. Thanks to quite a long wave people do get thorn apart. Therefore, the crowds rarely were a problem. And if you are able to manage the crowds in Ulus it's even less a problem - the vibe is great. We never heard a bad word in the line up.

Therefore I think you would have a lot of fun with the different waves in the region (when its too big at Ujung Bocur, you have to check krui left!).

BUT it is not really a spot for surfers with not yet safe take offs. All the waves are already shallow in mid-high tide. Besides the punchy beachbreak, you always surf on top of shallow reefs (which is great, as long as you have dialled your take offs).

If it doesn't have to be Sumatra I might consider Lakey Peak / Sumbawa if I were you guys. For us this is definitly the place to go on our next Indonesia trip. We only heard good things about it. There is supposed to ba a tonload of options. From reef to forgiving beachbreaks. And besides the main break, I've heard it is still quite calm and not yet crowded.

Whatever you do, it would be great if you could let us know how it was!

thanks for the great review. I came upon your blog googling "sumatra krui crowds" and hit the part where you tell about the 50 guys in the water.... ;)

I am thinking about going there in August/Sep for approx. 4 weeks. Unfortunately I have to go in the peak season, since my girlfriend is a teacher. That leads me to two questions:

- How is Ujung Bocor handling the crowds, if theres 50 guys in the water. Do they get torn apart somehow by the current, paddling back, sections etc.? I am not that much of a hassler and also no professional. In Ulu I get like one wave in an hour...

- Is there any spot suitable for my girl? She surfs a malibu, gets some green waves from time to time but I would not already call her intermediate. Besides... she really is not a big fan of rocks or reefs! Is there any surf for her as well?

It would be awesome to get some insights from you guys on those two questions.

Thanks a lot for the compliments! Especially on the longboard, Medewi is an amazing wave - we are not too big fans of the brown sugar surfcamp, tough.

But well, as written in the review - at least surf camp wise - there are not too many other options and the wave is amazing...

Hey Juan!

I surfed the dumpster diver last month in Bali (Green Bowl) at little overhead. The wave was quite fast and steep. Had some trouble with the thick rails and the board started to skate a little bit.

I still think it is an amazing all-round board, but for steep overhead waves I would recommend buying a longer, faster board with thinner rails (thats why I bought a DHD Duck Nuts in 6"3').

Have fun in Nicaragua. Never had that constant offshore winds anywhere else!

We do go biking in summer - but more in bikeparks, so far (see http://www.baguslife.com/do... ). But I recently ordered an enduro bike so I guess this is changed my options for the coming season :)
